When you need one
Banks, landlords and embassies may ask for it, sometimes in their own format. For family sponsorship in Dubai, GDRFA Dubai's service asks for the employment contract, and a salary certificate for employees of government and semi-government institutions and free zones.

A letter from the employer confirming that a person works for the company, in which role and since when, and what they are paid each month — usually basic salary plus allowances. It is printed on company letterhead, signed by an authorised signatory and stamped.
There is no single official format. Banks, landlords and embassies often have their own wording, so ask the requester first. GDRFA Dubai's family-sponsorship service lists an employment contract, plus a salary certificate for employees of government and semi-government institutions and free zones.
The company's name (as on the trade licence) and address, the employee's full name, nationality and passport number, designation and joining date, the monthly salary split into basic salary and allowances with the total, who it is addressed to, the date, and the name, title, signature and stamp of the authorised signatory.
A salary certificate confirms employment and pay. A salary transfer letter goes further: the employer undertakes to pay the salary into a named bank account and not to move it to another bank without that bank's clearance letter — a bank may ask for one before a loan or credit card. Many banks supply their own form; if yours does, use it.
The employer — normally HR or the company's authorised signatory. An employee cannot issue their own; this tool produces a draft for the employer to check, print on letterhead, sign and stamp.
