Bank Comfort Letter
Also known as: Bank Reference Letter, Comfort Letter, Bank Confirmation Letter
Quick Answer
A bank comfort letter is a document a bank issues confirming an applicant's relationship, standing, or account status. In UAE company setup it is often requested to support corporate bank-account opening or visa and licensing applications.
A bank comfort letter (or bank reference letter) is a short, formal statement from a bank. Depending on the type requested, it may confirm that an individual or company holds an account in good standing, state the account's age, or vouch in general terms for the holder's relationship with the bank — without disclosing exact balances unless specifically a balance-confirmation letter.
In the UAE setup context, comfort letters appear in two main places. Banks reviewing a new corporate-account application may ask for a reference letter from the founder's existing (often overseas) bank. Conversely, some licensing, tenancy, or visa processes ask an applicant to produce a letter from their UAE bank confirming an active relationship.
These letters are issued by the bank itself, usually for a small fee and within a few business days, and may need attestation if issued abroad. ZETUP PRO advises which exact letter type a given authority or bank will accept, so clients do not pay for the wrong document or face a rejection.
