Medical Fitness Test
Also known as: Medical Fitness Screening, Residency Medical Test, DHA Medical
Quick Answer
The medical fitness test is the mandatory health screening every UAE residency-visa applicant aged 18 or over must pass. It screens for specific communicable diseases at a government-approved centre and is a prerequisite for the residency-visa stamp and Emirates ID.
Anyone aged 18 or over applying for a UAE residency visa — employee, investor, or dependent — must complete a medical fitness test at a centre approved by the relevant health authority (DHA in Dubai, and SEHA or other ICP-linked centres in the remaining emirates). The standard test combines a blood test and a chest X-ray, screening primarily for communicable diseases such as HIV and active tuberculosis. Some categories — for example food handlers, salon staff, and domestic workers — undergo additional screening.
The test returns a 'fit' or 'unfit' result that feeds directly into the residency process. A 'fit' result clears the applicant for visa stamping; an 'unfit' result for a notifiable disease can lead to the visa being refused under UAE public-health rules. Results are usually ready within one to three working days, with same-day express options at a higher fee.
Government fees for the standard medical test typically run AED 250–550 depending on the emirate and whether normal or express/VIP processing is chosen. ZETUP PRO books the medical appointment, prepares the applicant's documents, and sequences it correctly between the entry permit and the Emirates ID and visa-stamping steps so the residency timeline is not delayed.
