- Days of unpaid leave do not count toward your period of service.
- End-of-service dues must be paid within 14 days of the contract ending.
- In specific gross-misconduct cases (Art. 44), gratuity may be subject to lawful deduction — seek advice.
- DIFC and ADGM run separate funded schemes (e.g. DEWS), not this formula — this calculator covers the mainland/onshore private sector.

How to calculate gratuity in the UAE
Gratuity is calculated on basic salary alone. u.ae states it is calculated on the basis of the last wage — namely the basic salary — and will not include allowances such as housing, transportation, utilities or furniture.
- Daily wage = basic monthly salary ÷ 30.
- 21 days' pay for each of the first five years of service.
- 30 days' pay for each year following the first five.
- The total is capped at two years' wage.
- Resignation and termination pay the same full gratuity since Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021.

Worked examples on an AED 10,000 basic salary
The daily wage here is AED 333.33. The result scales directly with basic salary — on an AED 20,000 basic these amounts double.
| Years of service | Days accrued | Gratuity |
|---|---|---|
| 2 | 42 | AED 14,000 |
| 3 | 63 | AED 21,000 |
| 4 | 84 | AED 28,000 |

| 10 | 255 | AED 85,000 |
Calculated on a basic salary of AED 10,000 per month using the formula above — the same one the calculator runs.

For private-sector employees under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, gratuity is based on basic salary: 21 days' basic pay for each of the first five years of service, and 30 days' basic pay for each year thereafter. The daily wage is the basic monthly salary divided by 30, and total gratuity is capped at two years' pay.
No. Since Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021, resignation and termination pay the same full gratuity — the old reduction (one-third for 1–3 years, two-thirds for 3–5 years) was abolished. You still need at least one completed year of continuous service to be entitled.
Gratuity is calculated on basic salary only — it excludes allowances such as housing, transport, and other benefits. Enter your basic salary (not your gross package) for an accurate estimate.
Yes. The total end-of-service gratuity is capped at the equivalent of two years' pay, regardless of how long you have worked beyond that point.
Gratuity is generally paid pro-rata for completed months beyond a full year of service. This calculator includes an additional-months input so you can estimate the partial-year portion.
Four completed years fall entirely within the first five, so you accrue 21 days' basic pay per year — 84 days in total. On a basic salary of AED 10,000 a month the daily wage is AED 333.33, giving AED 28,000. On AED 20,000 basic it is AED 56,000: the result scales directly with basic salary.
At least one completed year of continuous service. u.ae states that a worker who has served more than one year but less than five is entitled to full gratuity pay based on 21 days' salary for each year of work. Below one year there is no statutory entitlement.
The same way as under Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021 — nothing in the formula changed for 2026. Gratuity is 21 days' basic pay per year for the first five years and 30 days per year thereafter, based on basic salary only, with a total capped at two years' pay.
